Wine growing has been an art in the area from the time of the Etruscans – it can boast no less than eight DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) products and three strade del vino (wine roads).
The DOC produced in the south of the Province are Morellino di Scansano, Ansonica (Costa dell’Argentario), Pitigliano White, Capalbio, Sovana and Parrina. The wine roads “Colli di Maremma”; “Monteregio di Massa Marittima” and “Montecucco” have also each been registered as DOC in the north of the Province, also being the names of the roads along which the various producers can be found.
